Photograph by @paulnicklen for @sea_legacy. A Winged Pteropod, also known as a sea butterfly or sea angel floats around the Barents Sea near Svalbard, Norway. These pteropods are free-swimming snails that use wing-like flaps to navigate through the water column. This one was less than half and inch in diameter. As the ocean becomes more acidic the shells of these mollusks are literally melting.
