Jin Bao Bao, the "golden baby" I saw take a tumble off the scale a few weeks ago, was up in the treetops at the Bifengxia Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center in Sichuan Province, China, when I came back to continue this assignment. Panda cubs begin learning to climb trees around 6 months old, not long after they learn to walk. Up high, the small cubs are safer from predators while their mothers gather food.
